The Walls Are Going Up

Like I said, he doesn't mess around. They got 1/2 the house up today and will finish the walls tommorow. This is a view from the road. This is the kitchen. It will have French Doors and 6' windows on either side.
This shot kind of gives you a better idea of what they got done.
Shot from the creek view.
This is the view we will have from the kitchen and off the deck. It will look a lot better when we get the final dozer work completed and grass planted. I just wanted you to get an idea for why we placed the house where we did.

These Guys Don't Play

They started yesterday morning and by 3 p.m. today, we had floors. That is just amazing to me. The kids were so happy when we pulled up. You can really get a sense for what it's going to look like now. We changed the plan a little. We were going to do a den and a little music room for Colton's drums beside the garage, but we decided to put the drums in the garage and just make it a big den. He was fine with it because he thought the room was too small. He has gained much wisdom in his 7 years (so he thinks). Morgan's bedroom was 6" shorter than Colton's and now it's the same so she is thrilled with that. It was killing her sole.

I'm so excited. I found the vanity for my master bathroom today. I've been looking for one that had the furniture look but haven't found the color I wanted. I bought the two mirrors today and they will have to order the vanity. I also got the cabinet over the toilet. We need it for storage and it looks good. I had already picked out the standard vanity (builder model) and this one was marked down so I'm only paying $150 more and getting what I want. Yeah!!!!

Bring On The Wood

The contractor began yesterday (Tuesday). He got all the floor joists cut and all the bottom plates put down. It's raining this morning so I don't know if he will work any today or not.

Our contractor is a great guy. He's been building house for 30 years and is going to retire within the next 5. He told me Saturday, "Maam, I'll have it where you can go inside in 12 working days." He cracks me up. 12 days!!!! That seems really fast. Kenny says it will go fast at first and then slow way down. It doesn't matter to me. I'm just having fun watching it all happen. Praise God!!!

We Have Brick

They worked all weekend and got all the brick finished except for the front porch steps and a little piece on the garage. It rained today so they couldn't work. I love the brick. I was worried when I saw it on the pallet, but once they put it on the house, I love it.

The contractor is supposed to start putting the floor down tommorow if it doesn't rain. We went over yesterday after church and leveled all the dirt under the house. My dad helped Kenny a lot. It was very hot out there.

I just realized the date on my camera is a day behind. So the picture below was actually taken 5/23. The whole blog of pictures is a day behind. Sorry. It's fixed now.

Block Is Almost Finished

They finished most of the block Thursday. They are supposed to be finished with the brick by Monday. They are working all weekend unless it rains.

My little farmer

We don't have water at the new house yet so Colton and I had to water the garden the old fashioned way. He got a kick out of it though because he got to play in water.

More block...

They got a lot done Wednesday. Hopefully they can start bricking by Friday if it doesn't rain. Our brick came today. I'm anxious to see what it looks like on the house. It's called Charwood. We saw it on a dentist office in town and liked it. It's hard to pick out brick. It's too late now if we don't like it.
For some reason I've taken pictures from the beginning from this spot, so I thought I would take another since the house is here now. This will be the back yard. This is my favorite spot on the property. Right behind where I'm standing is a little creek. We own a little past the creek and back in to the woods to the right a little piece. It's so pretty down here. This picture doesn't do it justice. If you look in the picture above you can see how it runs down to the creek. We want to put some fruit trees over where the brush pile is. It will be cool to watch the deer from our deck.

Let The Block Laying Begin......

Yeah----exactly 2 months late, they began laying the block today. It's really a good thing because the weather is nice now. It has rained so much the past few months that it would have been a horrible mess anyways.

Yes, my son thinks he is a pirate.

My Flowers

Well, I came home to a beautiful surprise yesterday, my peonies started blooming. I grabbed the camera and after four sets of batteries was finally able to take a picture. Then I decided to take more pictures of all the annuals I've bought. They are really showing off right now. I made the arrangements so I thought I would take pictures to help me next year.

We have block!!!!!!

They brought the block yesterday and hopefully should start laying them today. The kids were so excited. As we drove up, Colton said my stomach feels tickly. Morgan and Chelsea had to walk around and touch them.

Colton's Big Catch!!!

Well, this has nothing to do with the house, but Colton caught his first big catfish of the year. It weighed 6 1/2 pounds. He was really excited. Morgan was too, can't you tell (she had just rolled out of bed at 10:30 a.m.).

Let's Try It Again.....

Well, my corn, squash, watermelon, and cantelope seeds rotted in the ground because of all the rain we've had lately so I replanted them Saturday morning. I put straw down to help control the weeds (suggestion from my friend Cindy-thanks a bunch). I was so tired Saturday night.

We had our first ripe strawberry. That was really exciting. It rotted on the bottom even though I had mulch down so I put straw under them as well hoping it will help.

Nothing new on the house except we got our electricity hooked up to the temporary pole. I just happened to be coming by and got a couple of pictures. I thought that was cool.

Hopefully they will bring the block this week and begin on it. We shall see!!!

Chief Cornerstone

Can I brag on God for a minute? I was reminded of some awesome things that have taken place since we started this house project. I took this picture as a reminder of what it means to have Jesus as our "Chief Cornerstone". I tear up everytime I think about it.

I was having a hard time a while back with the whole issue of whether or not we were ever going to get started on the house. Months had gone by and nothing was happening. It was winter so I used that as my reasoning, but when March came and they still didn't start when they said they would, I got really down. I went to the land and walked around and prayed like I always do. I saw an old orange flag hanging in a tree. Kenny and I had wanted to find our property boundaries, but hadn't been able to. In January, we called the guy who owned it before us and he told us exactly where to go. We found it, but didn't walk exactly down to the ribbon because there was thick brush all around it and it was muddy that day. Anyways, I was out walking this day in March and saw the flag in the tree. I followed it and found several others. I was able to find the whole outline of our property and mark with pink ribbon. That was really exciting because we had a little more than we thought. Well, I get to the corner of our land and this other guys and I see the flagging he told us about. I make my way through the briars and get down to it and could not believe my eyes. The corner of my property was a huge CORNERSTONE covered in moss. It had this old faded ribbon wrapped around it and a fence post stuck right beside it. I cried so much. I have this thing with rocks and cornerstones so when I saw that I immediatly knew that everything was going to be alright and He was in control. I thought back to all the years before when that land was originally surveyed that God knew that I would need that some day and whispered in that surveyors ear "wrap that ribbon on that rock". I love it. There was no need to do it. There is a post right there, but the rock had a ribbon on it as well. Now I'm sure this doesn't mean as much to you as it did to me, but it was God's way of saying, "Settle down Kim, I got this. I love you and it's going to be OK."

This may seem a little over the top or even corny to some, but after they poured the footer, Kenny and I went out there to look at it. I wrote Jesus in it where our bedroom wall is going to be because our headboard will sit there by that wall and I want to remember that He is always the head of our house and everything we have or ever will have is because of Him.

Isaiah 28:16
16 So this is what the Sovereign LORD says:"See, I lay a stone in Zion, a tested stone, a precious cornerstone for a sure foundation; the one who trusts will never be dismayed
